For the sake of clarity, by sharing the Gospel I am referring to something much more than a post on Facebook. And, for further clarification, sharing the Gospel is not to proclaim or advance the claims of a church, of a nation, of an ideology, but of Jesus Himself.

How is it possible to acknowledge Jesus as Lord if we take no notice of what He has told us to do?

Christians, all Christians, are to “…declare the wonderful deeds of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Once you were no people but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy.” (1 Peter 2:9-10)

America and the Church are now facing a challenge, if not a test, which questions our ability and resilience to stand against internal and external forces that threaten to further divide and pull apart. On a much, much deeper level, it comes down to every Christian (a faithful follower of all the teachings of Christ Jesus) willing to make hard choices?

In today’s world, we cannot afford to sit back and hope that the relatively few full-time ministers of the Word accomplish the task alone. The fulfillment of Christ’s great command to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature,” (Mark 16:15) is the shared responsibility of every individual who calls Christ Savior and Lord.

As a history student, I am recalling that during the Depression people clearly understood the serious choices before them: pull your hair out and jump out of a window, as some stockbrokers did after the crash in 1929 or unite and work together to see things change, restored and improve.

Change, true change in America and the Church will take place when we surrender to a unifying sense of a clear enemy. To neglect or dismiss the existence of the anti-God force the Bible calls Satan, the devil, Beelzebub, and the prince of this world, is to make allowance for evil to advance and thrive. There is a devil and he is out to spoil and mar God’s world in every way he can.

Call me a dreamer but I continue to believe in the greatness of America and the power and influence of God’s vehicle to reach wounded, broken, hurting humanity – the Church. That said, I remain a realist knowing if people remain unwilling to break with the habits of the past, rethink the future, and act anew, we will no doubt witness further divide and fall.

A mission, any mission for Christ Jesus involves unity. It would be a very, very wonderful thing for the world to see that what unites the Christian community is so much greater than what divides us.

The question I pose is not meant to be blunt or insensitive.

Are you a Christian?

If your answer is, “Yes!” please do not be selfish with the Gospel.

The Apostle Paul said to the Corinthians, “If our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the likeness of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)

Clearly, those who do not know Christ are perishing. They have not perished yet, but they are on their way. Men, women, and children are perishing, captive, and blind to both their predicament and to the Good News of Jesus Christ. Ultimately, this is all about people. Men and women are lost without Jesus Christ.

Psalm 16:11 says, “In thy presence there is fullness of joy, in thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.” Indeed, these are difficult and challenging times. However, there is no joy on earth to compare with that of leading an individual to Christ.

Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through me.” (John 14:6)

Today, the change many hope and pray for in our world today will only come about through our willingness to pay the price for it. It will require each and every one of us leaving the safety and comfort of the church.

Yes, our obedience to and for the Gospel will bring us into conflict with the principalities and powers of this world. However, if we are truly going to be bearers of the Good News, we must always be sensitive and kind to others, even though we might disagree with them.

Conflicts are absolutely an inevitable part of life. How we handle and resolve them will demonstrate the extent to which we understand the richness of the Gospel and God’s reconciling love.

You and I are not here at this time by chance. God has brought each of us here for a purpose. I hope and I pray God the Father will challenge and inspire each of us to be a more faithful and effective witness to Jesus Christ in the midst of a world that does not know Him.

“Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord Almighty.” (Zechariah 4:6)

In America and in a world that remains starved for heroes and leaders, in a world that remains saturated by debates and opinion polls, I remain comforted in knowing the Bible continues to point beyond “us” to the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Today, the ultimate and obvious question remains not, “What is the answer?” It is, “Who is the answer?”

As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.

His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg?” Some claimed that he was.

Others said, “No, he only looks like him.”

But he himself insisted, “I am the man.”

“How then were your eyes opened?” they asked.

He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.”

“Where is this man?” they asked him.

“I don’t know,” he said.

Does Christ use everything for good for those who love Him?

Yes, according to Romans 8:28-20.

Given choice, would this man have come into the world blind?

I would like to offer a few thoughts for consideration while being very careful not to equate or suggest blindness is the same as the brokenness of same-sex attraction.

Homosexual practice is a sin and blindness is not.

Jesus does not ‘explain’ the cause of the man’s blindness, but rather focuses on the purpose. He sees in the blind man an opportunity to display the works of God.

Personally-speaking, in so many respects here is the pivotal mark of where, I believe, we have arrived in trying to ascertain and understand the many, many complexities of homosexuality.

it just seems to me it is not so much…

“Why do I suffer or struggle with this brokenness” but “Will I be true and obedient to God when I do not fully understand the reason for this brokenness?”

It is a fact that none of us get to choose that which tempts us or that which may habitually plague us. However, we each have a responsibility and a choice about what to do with our form of brokenness and whether or not we seek healing and transformation through Christ Jesus.

When you and I see a broken person (it does not matter what form of brokenness), do we see the person or just a problem?

If we truly see the person, would that not mean offering and providing whatever assistance necessary?

I pose the question because no one seems to be focusing upon or rejoicing in the undeniable fact the formerly blind man can now see.

Is this a lesson for each of us regarding spiritual blindness?

Our thirteenth broadcast is titled “How Do We Love Them Like Jesus?” The Gospel of John is clear in its description of Jesus. Jesus was 100% grace and 100% truth. He never erred on one side or the other. If we are truly to represent Christ’s heart and mind to the sexually broken, we must be equally balanced in those two critical areas as well.

They desperately need to know why Bible-believing, faithful followers of Christ Jesus believe homosexual practice is wrong and that there are options for those who are homosexually inclined. They need to hear a testimony and a message about homosexuality that balances both truth and grace, and which brings the Gospel to bear.

Many youth have been and continue to be swept up in the vacuum of, “There are so many mixed messages being generated today regarding homosexuality, where do we find truth?”

Christian youth, in particular, are frequently caught in the middle. Do they hold to the instructions of Scripture, church, and parents, or do they reject their faith convictions as outdated and accept a new morality?

Parents and church leaders can no longer afford to stay silent on this matter. Youth today can hardly watch a television program or movie without being bombarded with messages that attack and undermine Biblical perspectives on sexuality. Many youth are being taught that Christian morality is bigoted, antiquated and intolerant.

Is it surprising that for many youth without truthful and credible direction from positive moral authorities in their lives, are accepting what the culture is teaching them?

We, the Church, just maybe witnessing the loss of one of the greatest evangelistic opportunities of our time. And, I find it ironic, if not tragic, that the opportunity, the mission field lies in our own backyard. The reality of homosexuality isn’t, “out there,” it’s inside our churches, in youth groups across the country.

Bible-believing Christians must address the many myths our youth are being taught and how to refute them. How can they possibly hope to hold firm if parents and pastors refuse to address the lies that are bombarding our youth today?

Reaching youth struggling with their sexual identity is something we all can do and must do to help searching youth understand God’s abundant plans for their lives and to counteract misguided agendas that seek to ruin all hope for the youth.

You and I may be the only person that will have the courage to share the Good News with a youth impacted by sexual and relational brokenness.

Practically speaking…

• Keep the consequence of sin in context. We have all fallen short of the glory of God.
• Accepting and loving a teenager without conditions has nothing to do with condoning their behavior/lifestyle.
• Offer to serve as an accountability and prayer partner.
• Clearly distinguish the difference between temptation and sin.
• Don’t overreact – be prepared for the ‘born that way’ argument.
• You are not expected to have all the answers.
• Never, ever water down the Word of God.
• Be patient and trust God completely.
• Emphasize the key to overcoming sexual brokenness and sexual identity confusion is in Christ Jesus.

While it is easy enough to become cynical about the times in which we live, remember when God is put in the equation of life, a hope that does not disappoint rises with us. It is true that the number of teens struggling with their sexuality has become alarming, but we should and must trust God and reach out to youth with the message of salvation and sexual redemption available through the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you know Jesus, you are a candidate to be a champion for change in the life of a youth.

Thirty-five years ago, surrendering my life to Christ Jesus and saying goodbye to homosexuality, I never once considered that I would find myself front and center of one of the greatest crossroads the Church has ever faced.

Homosexuality has become one of the most controversial social issues of our time, presenting a host of difficult and divisive questions. What exactly is homosexuality and how is it caused? Is homosexual practice morally good? Is homosexual practice beneficial or detrimental to the individual? What’s the best way to respond to the gay agenda that relentlessly bombards us through various social and political sources?

While the above is certainly important and relevant, I believe a far greater issue and concern is at hand.

Homosexuality should not have been, nor should it now be, the primary concern of the Church. What has been unfolding for decades and continues today is a rejection of God and a suppressing of His truth in favor of being wise in our own eyes. Plainly, we are in pride and rebellion against God.

Fact: When the Church of Jesus Christ holds to Biblical truth the Church influences society and culture.

Romans 1:29-32 tells us the consequence of a society which ignores and suppresses His truth is a people, “filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

At the very heart of this dark shadow that hangs over the Church is an important question each faithful follower of Christ Jesus must ask: Will I reject the authority of the Word of God or will I by the power of the Holy Spirit surrender and conform my life to the Word of God?

Just the fact that we are continuing to debate whether or not the Bible clearly states that homosexuality is sinful validates Paul’s concern that, “they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itchy ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

There are those who focus entirely on a world getting progressively worse, so what’s the point of reaching out and helping those who “come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil” (2 Timothy 2:24-26) in these last days?

The truth, however, must be spoken and it must be spoken with compassion, understanding, and the knowledge that truth often cuts extremely deep before it can begin to bring about healing and wholeness. Ultimately, faithful followers of Christ Jesus must speak the truth about homosexuality because it is truth alone that will bring about freedom and wholeness.

Thirty-five years ago, it was Bible-believing Christians, speaking both truth and grace into my life that made all the difference. I would not be here today without them.

My particular sin and brokenness was not overlooked but rather talked about openly and in conjunction with many, many other sins. For the first time in my life I began to be who God created me to be, which included loving even the broken parts, as He did and does.

Jesus said, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)

When we embrace the truth of Scripture without compromise, Jesus empowers us to walk in His purposes.

Truthless grace accomplishes nothing.
