“There’s something I need to tell you…I’m gay.”
These are hard words to hear from a beloved family member. But as hard as they are to hear, they are usually just as hard for the same-sex attracted person to utter.
No matter the relationship – parent, child, grandparent, spouse, sibling – that admission will likely mark a change in the way you and your loved one understand each other.
Grace and truth – the considerable challenge to be honest and loving; firm in our convictions and unsparing in our compassion; as clear in our beliefs as we are generous in our love. When someone you love is gay, you become more aware than ever of your inability to face life’s challenges apart from the grace of God.
At the next “Straight Talk” – “Negotiating Family Boundaries/Where do we draw the line?”
Many sincere, dedicated believers struggle with confusion about when it is biblically appropriate for them to set limits.
*A gay family member wants to bring his partner home for the holidays and sleep in the same room as any married couple would.
*A gay family member wants to talk openly during family gatherings about his homosexuality or issues surrounding gay rights.
A variety of other family situations may arise. Often the challenge becomes drawing and negotiating boundaries, while trying to preserve the relationship without violating your own conscience.
The next “Straight Talk” is Sunday, November 1, 2026, beginning at 8:00am.
All “Straight Talk” sessions are age appropriate and open to Junior High and High School age young men and women.
All Straight Talk Class/Care Group meetings are held at Rock Harbor Church: 10904 Snow Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93314
