Each Saturday morning beginning at 7:00am, His Way Out Ministries offers a 30-minute broadcast dedicated to equipping, educating and encouraging the Body of Christ to reach out and minister to individuals, families, and churches impacted by the brokenness of same-sex attraction.

Season 2, Episode 18
Roles get reversed when Pastor Roger Spradlin interviews Pastor Phillip Lee in the second part of a two-part episode about saying goodbye to “gay” and surrendering his life to Christ Jesus 31 years ago.

Pastor Spradlin asked important and pointed questions such as: Is there a difference between the terms “gay” and “homosexual”? Did you choose to be gay? How instrumental was the Church in your process of transformation? Were you ever bullied? Do you think a Christian should attend a same-sex marriage ceremony? Am I correct that you personally witnessed the AIDS crisis unfold in 1980? What was it, what happened that ultimately caused you to say goodbye to “gay” and surrender to Christ? Is freedom from same-sex attraction instantaneous when surrendering to Christ or is it a process? Is the ultimate goal for the same-sex attracted person heterosexuality? Is the true identity of a Christian found in their sexuality or in Christ? And, much more.

These are the kind of conversations that need to take place throughout the Body of Christ on a regular basis to effectively and compassionately communicate God’s heart concerning sexual brokenness and wholeness in Christ Jesus.

Coming up at “Straight Talk” on Saturday, February 11, 2023 beginning at 9:00am.

Each of us will at some point in our lives look upon a loved one and ask the question: “We are willing, Lord, but what can we do?”

“For it is true we can seldom help those closest to us. Either we don’t know what part of ourselves to give, or more often than not, the part we have to give is not wanted. And so, it is those we live with, and should know, who elude us. But we can still love them. We can love completely, without complete understanding.” – A River Runs Through It

Grace and Truth – the considerable challenge to be honest and loving; firm in our convictions, unsparing in our compassion and as clear in our beliefs as we are generous in our love.

When someone you love is same-sex attracted, you become more aware than ever of your inability to face life’s challenges apart from the grace of God.

At “Straight Talk” we will seek a Christlike response to our LGBTQ-identified family members, friends, neighbors and co-workers so may what be said of Christ Jesus may be said of us as well – that we are, as He was, full of grace and truth.

“Straight Talk” meetings are held faithfully on the 2nd Saturday of each month at Rock Harbor Churchwww.rockharborchurch.net – Bakersfield, CA and facilitated by Pastor Phillip Lee, His Way Out Ministries.

Season 3, Episode 1
Pastor Roger Spradlin, Senior Pastor at Valley Baptist Church, joins Pastor Phillip Lee to discuss the topic “Homosexuality and the Church”. Is the challenge, the crisis, the Church faces today really about homosexuality? Christians should never use God’s Word as a club, but neither should we water down or withhold His Word. Why are so many so adamant about challenging “change is possible for the homosexual?”

Season 3, Episode 13
Pastor Phillip Lee continues his discussion with his special guest Pastor Roger Spradlin, Senior Pastor at Valley Baptist Church in Bakersfield CA.

Is it Scriptural to label homosexuality the worst of all sins? How should a church be led to effectively love homosexuals? Can a Christian still struggling with same-sex attraction, still profess to being a Christian? Is it ok to be gay since Jesus never specifically mentioned homosexuality? How should a Christian respond when accuse of being homophobic? God’s truth remains absolute truth.

Pastor Phillip Lee is joined by his special guest Pastor Roger Spradlin, Senior Pastor at Valley Baptist Church in Bakersfield CA.

Today, the Christian community has many different approaches to handling homosexuality. We have gay bashing churches, gay affirming churches, and churches that have taken a vow of silence on the entire matter. How can a person evaluate whether their church is handling the topic appropriately?

Today, few topics are as fraught with confusion as the subject of homosexuality.

Too often, the challenge, the biggest communication problem we, the Church, face regarding homosexuality is we do not listen to understand – we listen only to reply.

Speaking as one that spent 17 years in the formidable gay communities of Los Angeles, New York City and San Francisco, I know all too well there are radical gay-identified men and women who will not listen to anything the Christian community has to say.

Pastor Phillip Lee RL media

Their ears are closed, and their hearts have become so completely hardened that nothing Christians say will make a difference. Many have completely severed any and all bridges of communication, except for name-calling.

However, there remain men and women practicing same-sex scenarios who would walk away from it if they thought they really could. Having bought into the notion of “once gay, always gay” as I did for many years, they still experience a sense of the wrongness of what they are doing but feel completely trapped with no way out.

To be frank, these are the men and women we have often failed, many of whom are in our churches.

Again, speaking from years of living as a gay-identified man, many in the gay community are hurting because they, just as I did, compulsively act out behavior to mask and cover pain.

Too often, we the Christian community, have failed to draw a distinction between the radical gay community and the individuals sitting in church who might be confused about their gender. Or between gay activists and the son or daughter who has adopted the gay identity but still is looking for a way out.

Please know and understand the radical gay community, gay activists in particular, do not speak for all gay-identified men and women. Frankly, gay activists often, very often, give the gay community a very bad rap.

My point?

We, the Christian community, we do not like it when others paint us with a big brush, let’s not do the same with the gay community.

Draw a clear distinction between the radical gay agenda and the men and women with unwanted same-sex attraction who are seeking help and hope.

The first word from the Church to the gay community should be that we ourselves need repentance.

Rock Harbor Church and His Way Out Ministries are pleased to announce “Straight Talk” beginning Saturday, January 14, 2023, 9:00am to 11:00am.

The kind of truth faithful followers of Christ Jesus are called to embrace, proclaim, and walk in, does not have grey edges. It is clear and straightforward about God’s commandments and God’s priorities.

It definitively names and defines what is right and wrong and does not veil the consequences for both obedience and disobedience.

Whether Christian or not, anyone seeking truth, God’s absolute truth regarding homosexuality, must turn to the Holy Scriptures.

“Straight Talk” seeks to turn controversy into ministry because those who live by truth engage in the ongoing challenge of applying God’s unchanging standards to our ever-changing culture and world.

What is the difference between “sharing the Gospel versus clobbering someone with the Bible?”

How is “speaking the truth in love” accomplished to someone whose entire identity is wrapped up in their sexuality?

Scripturally speaking, what do we know about homosexuality?

How do you respond to: “Love is love, so what difference does it make if it is two men or two women. Love is what matters most, right?”

What’s wrong with this picture: “We repent enough to be forgiven, but do we surrender enough to be changed?”

With God’s Word being crystal clear that change is possible for the man or woman combating same-sex attraction, why do you suppose many are stating change is not possible?

Which is easier for you to say, “Please forgive me for…,” or, “I need to talk to you about something you are doing that hurts me?”

How would you define (to the gay-identified man/woman) the difference between “acceptance and approval?”

“Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts,” the apostle Peter admonished. “And always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.” (1 Peter 3:15)

Straight Talk, facilitated by Pastor Phillip Lee, His Way Out Ministries, will begin on Saturday, January 14, 2023, 9:00am to 11:00am and then continue to meet on the 2nd Saturday of each month, 9:00am to 11:00am at Rock Harbor Church.

The His Way Out Ministries broadcast is dedicated to equipping, educating, and encouraging the Body of Christ to reach out and minister to individuals, families, and churches impacted by the brokenness of same-sex attraction.

Season 6, Episode 5
Phillip Lee
You are sitting in church, listening to your pastor. You are following along and taking notes on the very relevant topic of same-sex attraction because what is being shared is not only relevant to our culture but to you personally. Now you have the task, if not the monumental challenge, of facing the son, daughter, co-worker, friend, or neighbor that sees nothing wrong with homosexual practice and is involved in a same-sex relationship. You are now the one that gets to flesh out the truth you now know. How is that done? What do you do? What don’t you do? What does representing Christ Jesus in this matter look like?
