Homosexuality: Answering the Culture

If God is love, then what’s wrong with a man loving a man or a woman loving a woman?

Nothing is wrong with a man loving another man or a woman loving another woman, but a sexual expression of that love is strictly prohibited.

Scripture teaches that “God is love.” (1 John 4:16) But that teaching cannot be twisted to support behavior that contradicts other verses that establish God’s boundaries for both emotional and sexual intimacy. Jesus couldn’t have made this any clearer: “Haven’t you read…that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh;? So they are no longer two, but one.” (Matthew 19:4-6)

True love has boundaries that protect, guide, and show concern for its recipients. Today, especially, some people see same-sex scenarios as “tolerance,” but that is not the Lord’s view at all. As the Apostle Paul says, “For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, the will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from truth and turn aside to myths.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

The biblical truth that all people are created in God’s image must never be extended to a belief in the equality of the behaviors of all people.
